History

 

Established on May 23 1836 as the United States Army premier mounted force the 2nd Cavalry Regiment holds the distinction of being the longest continuously serving active duty regiment in the history of the nation. For nearly two centuries the Dragoons have served as the vanguard of American military power continuously adapting from the horseback patrols of the early frontier to the mechanized reconnaissance operations of the World Wars the Cold War and modern Stryker vehicle deployments. Guided by their historic command "Remember your Regiment and follow your officers" the legacy of the Dragoons is defined by an unbroken line of elite highly mobile troopers who have consistently pioneered tactical innovation stood vigilant on the frontiers of freedom and maintained a legacy of readiness and adaptability that remains central to the modern U.S. Army.
