Colonel Joe Ewers is a native of Ohio, and he began his military service as an enlisted Soldier, MOS 19D Cavalry Scout. His first assignment was with 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment, deploying in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
From the enlisted ranks, he entered the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) and later graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point (Class of 1997), taking his commission in the Infantry.
He has served in numerous command and staff positions including: Air Assault Rifle Platoon Leader, Air Assault Support Platoon Leader, Ranger Platoon Leader, Assistant Battalion Operations Officer, Mechanized Infantry Company Commander, Mechanized HHC Company Commander, West Point Instructor, Ranger Battalion Operations Officer, Ranger Battalion Executive Officer, Ranger Regiment Executive Officer, Stryker Infantry Battalion Commander, Division Operations Officer (G3), and Ranger Battalion Commander.
COL Ewers has deployed numerous times in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
COL Ewers holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University, and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
COL Ewers is married with four children.
