COL Robert S. McChrystal

Regimental Commander

82nd Colonel of the Regiment

 

Colonel Rob McChrystal is a native of Springfield, Missouri. He received his commission as an Infantry officer from the United States Military Academy in 2002. He most recently served as the Deputy Commander for the 75th Ranger Regiment.

He previously commanded 2D Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. Previously, he held various command and staff positions with Joint Special Operations Command, the 75th Ranger Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, and 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

COL McChrystal has multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan with 3/2 SBCT, 173rd ABCT, and the 75th Ranger Regiment.

His awards and decorations include two Bronze Stars with V Device, the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and various other Army and Joint awards. He has earned the Ranger Tab, the Expert and Combat Infantryman’s Badges, and the Master Parachutist Badge.

COL McChrystal holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, CA, and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the Army War College at Carlisle, PA.

COL McChrystal is married and has four children.
