LTC Matthew J. Piosa

1st Squadron

LTC  Matt Piosa is a native of Pennsylvania and commissioned as an Infantry Officer from the United States Military Academy in 2005. 

His first assignment was to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy where he served as a Platoon Leader in the 2-503rd Infantry (Airborne) and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. LTC Piosa proceeded to attend the Maneuver Captains Career Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon completion, LTC Piosa returned to Europe where he served as a plans officer in the 2D Cavalry Regiment before deploying to southern Afghanistan and taking command of Apache Company, 1st Squadron, 2D Cavalry Regiment.  After command, he went on to serve as a staff officer in the 75th Ranger Regiment and command HHC, 75th Ranger Regiment in Fort Benning, Georgia. 

He then attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, before returning to Fort Benning, Georgia where he served in 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment as the Battalion Liaison Officer, Battalion Operations Officer, and Battalion Executive Officer.  Throughout his time in the 75th Ranger Regiment, LTC Piosa deployed multiple times in support of operations in the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility.  

Most recently, LTC Piosa served in Vicenza, Italy as the Southern European Task Force, Africa Early Entry Command Post Chief.  

LTC Piosa holds a Master of Science degree in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA and a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
