Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Wood, Jr. was born in Germany. He enlisted in the US Army in 1998 and commissioned as an Armor Officer through ROTC upon graduation from Cameron University in 2003.
His first assignment saw him serve in a variety of Cavalry roles in 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment to include Headquarters Platoon Leader OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF I); Tank Platoon Leader; Scout Platoon Leader (OIF III); and Heavy Cavalry Support Platoon Leader (OIF III). Additionally, LTC Wood served as a Troop Executive Officer, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado.
LTC Wood served as C Troop Commander, 5th Squadron, 5th Cavalry, 194th Armored Brigade at Fort Knox, Kentucky from September 2007 to August 2008. LTC Wood remained at Fort Knox to serve as Aide-De-Camp at the United States Army Armor Center. From August 2009 to August 2011, he then took command of B Troop, 6th Squadron, 4thCavalry, 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, and deployed to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF).
Following company command, LTC Wood served as the Senior Captain Assignment Officer for Human Resource Command until December 2012. From May 2014 to October 2014, he served as Regimental Chief of Operations, 3d Cavalry Regiment during which time he deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF. Following service in Afghanistan, from December 2014 to May 2016, LTC Wood served as the Executive Officer of 4th Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas and South Camp, Egypt. He remained at Fort Hood to serve as the Regimental Operations Officer of 3d Cavalry Regiment until March 2017. From May 2017 to July 2020, LTC Wood served as the Chief Training, Readiness, and Exercise, Joint Forces Headquarters-National Capital Region at Fort McNair, Washington, DC.
LTC Wood’s military education includes Armor Officer Basic Course, the Scout Leader Course, the Maneuver Company Commander Course, the Cavalry Leader Course, and the Joint Forces Staff College. He holds a Bachelor's degree in History from Cameron University, and a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.

LTC Wood is married with two children.
